Both apps keep a MacBook from sitting at 100% all day. They get there in different ways. AlDente sets its own charge limit. Amply turns on the limit Apple built into macOS 26.4, then watches it and tells you in plain words what the battery is doing.
Amply is our app, so this page is our side of it. Every AlDente fact here comes from AlDente's own site, read on November 8, 2026. The sources are listed at the end.
How each one sets the limit
AlDente has its own Charge Limiter. Its FAQ recommends setting the macOS charge limit to 100% and turning off Optimized Battery Charging, "so macOS and AlDente don’t interfere with each other."
Amply goes the other way. It uses the Charge Limit that macOS 26.4 added to System Settings and turns it on and off for you. It never asks for an admin password, and it never writes to the chip that runs charging.
So use one or the other. When Amply sees the battery charge past your limit, "another battery tool may be fighting it" is one of the 3 causes it lists.
Which Macs each one runs on
AlDente supports every MacBook with Apple silicon and most Intel MacBooks from 2013 on. From version 1.38 it runs on macOS 12 Monterey through macOS 27.
Amply needs a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 26.4 or later, because that is the release where Apple added the limit it uses. On an Intel Mac or an older macOS, Amply can only watch the battery.
What each one has
AlDente Free includes the Charge Limiter and Discharge. AlDente Pro adds features Amply does not have, among them Sailing Mode, Automatic Discharge, Calibration Mode, a charging Schedule and control of the MagSafe LED.
Amply leans on explanation. Every charging state comes with a plain sentence, and a switch turns on watts and mAh. It sends a notification when the limit stops holding, with 3 likely causes. It keeps battery health over 90 days, a year or since install, exports a 1‑page PDF report, tells you whether the charger you plugged in is enough for this Mac and gives time left in words.
What each one costs
AlDente Free costs nothing. AlDente Pro is a yearly subscription or a lifetime license. Its pricing page showed 11.49 € a year and 23.99 € for lifetime on November 8, 2026. Pro is also part of Setapp.
Amply is $9.50 once (50% off $19), after a 14-day free trial with every feature and no card. 1 key covers 3 Macs, and updates to version 1 are free.

Which one to pick
- Pick AlDente if you have an Intel MacBook or a macOS older than 26.4, or if you want Sailing Mode, Discharge or Calibration Mode.
- Pick Amply if you have an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 26.4 or later and want the limit Apple built in, with an alert when it stops holding.
Either way, you can try before paying. AlDente Free and the Amply trial both cost nothing.
