Amply is a Mac app made by Aretebase LLC ("we"). Your battery data stays on your Mac, and we never receive it.
What stays on your Mac
Amply keeps your battery readings, alerts and their history, battery health over time, and your settings. It also keeps the date your trial started and your license key (with its activation record). Since version 1.1 that includes the times you unplug (for the timed charge to 100% before you usually leave), the chargers it has seen and the weekly battery note. All of it lives in Amply's own folders in your user Library. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.
What Amply reads while on battery
While your Mac runs on battery, Amply reads from macOS which apps are using the processor, to spot an app draining the battery in the background. It keeps those app names in memory for 15 minutes. They are never written to disk or sent anywhere.
What Amply sends, and to whom
Amply goes online for 2 things only.
- Your license, with Polar. When you activate a key, Amply sends Polar (api.polar.sh) your license key and this Mac's computer name, which labels the activation. About once a week it sends the key and the activation id to check the license is still valid. When you deactivate, it sends the same 2 to free the seat.
- Updates, from aretebase.com. Once a day Amply downloads a small file from aretebase.com that lists the newest version. The request carries the app's version and nothing about your Mac. Like any web request, our host sees your IP address when it serves the file. We don't collect it or use it.
That's all. Amply has no analytics, no crash reporting, no ads and no account.
Buying Amply
Polar sells Amply for us as the merchant of record. It takes your payment under its own privacy policy. From your order we see your name, your email address, what you bought and your license key. We use them only for your order, your license and any refund.
Links to Apple
The battery service card opens apple.com in your browser when you click it. Apple sees that visit. Amply sends nothing.
Sending a report
If you click Send a report, Amply opens a new email in your mail app with the app version, your Mac model, the limit state and Amply's own log since it last opened. You see the whole text first. It leaves out your Mac's name, your user name and your license key. Amply never sends it itself.
Your calendar
Amply reads your calendar only if you turn on the setting that charges to 100% before a trip. It reads the events on your Mac to find one. Nothing from your calendar leaves the Mac.
If you write to hello@aretebase.com, we use your message and address to answer you (and for nothing else).
Deleting your data
If you want the seat back, open Settings > License and click "Deactivate this Mac" first. Then:
- Quit Amply.
- Delete it from Applications.
- Delete its folder in ~/Library/Group Containers (the name ends in com.aretebase.chargelimit).
To have your order details removed, write to hello@aretebase.com.
